Why should you blog? What to blog about?
Blogging is exciting, Blogging is one of the best uses of your "free" time in todays business world.
Getting your thoughts into cyberspace can help showcase your skills. Blogging can help people discover you on google. But coming up with ideas of what to blog about can be hard.
What to Blog on:
Simple, start with topics that you like. I know, that may not seem to have much to do with your profession, but no one wants to read about accounting 100% of the time. People are much more likely to relate to you when discussing your favorite mixed drink or recipe. There is a reason that Cat Videos go viral. Add some human interest into your blogging platform on occassion.
Next, start with some basics of what you do. Start off with the most common question that you have had. How do I file a 1099? I know, its is to simple of question to imagine for a professional. But people really do type these questions into google. By the way, google can a large help with this one, helping to show you the most common questions that folks may have.
Third, focus on narrow focused questions. How do I fiile a late 1099 electronically when I am a foregin national? Sound to focused? Believe it or not, there are people are out there that are asking this question. The answer to the question, may be, that you can not file an electronically for foreign nationals after April 15th of a given tax year. If that is the case, then explain, where it says so and perhaps why this may be the case. Many times ideas of this type come up when you yourself get the really strange scenario and you have to track down the answer.
Blogging takes time. It takes time to write, it takes time to edit. But it also takes time for your blog posts "to simmer" in the google world. Blogging will not give you immediate results, but it will give you time honored authority.
